What holders get
The top spot in a category is a placement, and a placement is a bundle of things. This page is the bundle, as of 29 Sep 2026. It is the description of holder benefits the Sponsorship Agreement refers to, and we may add to it.
The placement itself
#1 on the board WHILE YOU HOLD
Your name, logo and link in the top spot for your category on the main board, on the category page, and in the ticker tape that runs across every page. Marked sponsored, as every placement is.
The feed WHILE YOU HOLD
Every category has a public JSON feed at /c/TICKER.json. Your placement is in it, with your link, for anything that reads the board: newsletters, dashboards, agents.
A link from your category page WHILE YOU HOLD
An indexable page about your category, with your link at the top of it. The link carries rel="sponsored", which is what paid placements are supposed to carry; what it sends you is readers who were looking at your category, not a ranking trick.
Your listing PERMANENT
Every company with a Total Stake stays on the category's leaderboard at its rank, name and link included. Being passed moves you down; it doesn't remove you.
Founding holder credit PERMANENT
If you are the first company ever to hold a category, the category page says so, with the month and year, forever. One per category. It survives being passed and withdrawing.
Telling people
Your notice page WHILE YOU HOLD
A page at /n/… that records your placement: the category, the ticker, when you took the top spot, and a line about your company. Share it, or point your press release at it.
Holder mark and asset pack WHILE YOU HOLD
A "#1 in GraphRAG on Uptick Board" mark in SVG and PNG, dark and light, for your site, deck and email signature, plus announcement copy you can use as is. Hold a spot, and the desk sends the pack.
The Uptick Report EVERY ISSUE
The Monday newsletter reports every change of holder in its "On the tape" section the week it happens. While you hold, you can also supply one line for the "Holders' desk" section in each issue, marked sponsored. That's yours to write; the rest of the issue is ours.
The Uptick Job Board FROM NOVEMBER
Holders' roles are pinned at the top of their category on the Uptick Job Board, with the holder mark. Opening after the board is live; holders at the Open get it first.
Keeping it
- Nothing expires. There are no renewals. You hold the top spot until another company's Total Stake goes above yours.
- We email you when you're passed, with the new Claim Price. Retaking the top spot costs the difference, because everything you've paid still counts.
- A standing stake keeps it for you. Set a Cap and we retake the top spot automatically within it, with a receipt every time. Change or cancel it from any email.
What holders don't get
Editorial coverage. The Uptick Report is edited independently and has opinions of its own. It may praise, criticise or recommend companies, holders included. A placement doesn't buy any of that, and doesn't protect a holder from it. When the Report writes about a company that holds or has held a placement, it says so, and anything a holder paid for is marked sponsored. Holders also don't own a ticker, a category or a name. The board decides what a category is called, and if one is renamed or re-tickered, your placement and Total Stake carry over unchanged.
